Abstract |
Cracks and damage of concrete during service pose threats to its safety and durability. Compared to traditional repair techniques, self-healing strategy for concrete repair is regarded as a promising technology. Two self- healing techniques, namely microcapsule self-healing and microbial self-healing .This poster reviews the recent advancement in microbial self-healing concrete .Self-healing concrete using bacteria, which could form CaCO3 crystals for crack sealing, has promised benefits to reduce cost for concrete maintenance, because cracks could be autonomously repaired without human intervention.carrier used to protect bacteria from the harsh environment during the process.Existence of bacteria inside carrier was observed using electron microscopy. It primarily outlines various repair materials are required for concrete self-healing. characterization methods for self-healing effectiveness, and preparation steps of specimens are summarized and discussed in this poster. The characteristics of higher bacteria content, lower incorporated amount. It was found that bacteria with EP and EC is very active for generation of CaCO3 . All experimental results suggest that EP and EC may be an adequate bacteria carrier for self-healing concrete. |
